Often referred to as the 'Heaven on Earth', the Kashmir Great Lakes trek justifies the title with its unparalleled beauty. This trek is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque treks in India.
Over the span of seven days, you will walk past seven spectacular, pristine alpine lakes situated high up in the mountains. From the vast green meadows of Sonamarg to the rugged landscapes around Gadsar pass, traversing five beautiful valleys, the trek offers a new, breathtaking postcard view every day.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Sonamarg (Base Camp)
Arrive in Srinagar and drive to the base camp in Sonamarg. Acclimatize and prepare for the journey ahead amidst the Sindh river valley.
Day 2: Sonamarg to Nichnai
The trek begins with an ascent through dense pine forests and meadows to the picturesque valley of Nichnai.
Day 3: Nichnai to Vishansar Lake via Nichnai Pass
Cross the Nichnai Pass (13,100 ft) to descend into the stunning Vishansar Valley. Camp near the oligotrophic Vishansar alpine lake.
Day 4: Vishansar to Gadsar via Gadsar Pass
Cross the highest point of the trek, Gadsar Pass (13,800 ft), featuring glorious views. Descend to the serene Gadsar Lake.
Day 5: Gadsar to Satsar
A beautiful walk through flower-strewn meadows and meandering streams leads to Satsar, a collection of seven interconnected lakes.
Day 6: Satsar to Gangabal Twin Lakes
Ascend the rocky Zaj Pass. From the top, witness the majestic Mt. Harmukh and the twin lakes of Gangabal and Nundkol resting at its base.
Day 7: Gangabal to Naranag, Drive to Srinagar
A steep descent through a pine forest brings you to the Naranag roadhead. From here, drive back to Srinagar.
