Complete Guide to Kedarkantha Winter Trek 2025

Kedarkantha is one of the most popular winter treks in India, located in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Standing at an altitude of 12,500 feet, this trek offers stunning views of snow-capped Himalayan peaks including Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and Black Peak.

Best Time to Visit

The best time for Kedarkantha trek is from December to April when the entire trail is covered in thick snow. The winter snow transforms the landscape into a magical white paradise that attracts thousands of trekkers every year.

Trek Itinerary (4 Days)

  • Day 1: Dehradun to Sankri (6-7 hours drive) – Acclimatization and briefing at base camp
  • Day 2: Sankri to Juda Ka Talab (4-5 hours trek) – Beautiful forest trail through oak and pine
  • Day 3: Juda Ka Talab to Kedarkantha Summit to Hargaon (8-9 hours) – Summit day with 360° panoramic views
  • Day 4: Hargaon to Sankri (3-4 hours) – Descent and drive back to Dehradun

What to Pack

Essential items include a good quality down jacket, thermal innerwear, waterproof trekking shoes, trekking poles, sunglasses, sunscreen SPF 50+, and a headlamp. We provide sleeping bags rated for -10°C, tents, and all meals during the trek.

Difficulty Level

Kedarkantha is rated as an Easy to Moderate trek, making it perfect for beginners who want to experience their first snow trek. However, basic fitness is required – you should be able to walk 6-8 km comfortably.

Cost

Our all-inclusive Kedarkantha trek package starts at ₹8,500 per person which includes accommodation, meals, guide, permits, and camping equipment. Transportation from Dehradun to Sankri is additional.

Is Dayara Bugyal safe for a 12 year old child during the peak winter months of January?

Hi Jane, yes Dayara Bugyal is generally safe but it gets extremely cold. Proper layer management is absolutely crucial for children.
